BigCommerce - Enable API Access

Karl Falconer · Updated

This article is for whoever connects a BigCommerce store inside DropStream — a fulfillment provider (3PL) or a merchant who manages their own DropStream account. You’ll add the store through DropStream’s Add Connection wizard. If a fulfillment provider is setting up DropStream for you, you don’t need this page — just gather your BigCommerce Store Hash and send it to them.

What you’ll need

  • A DropStream account you can sign in to.
  • Your BigCommerce Store Hash — see BigCommerce - Get Your API Credentials.
  • Your BigCommerce Store Owner sign-in, for the one-time authorization step.

How DropStream connects to BigCommerce

Every store connects through the same Add Connection wizard. For the full walkthrough of the wizard’s four steps, see Add a Connection. This article covers only the Store Setup step, where you enter the BigCommerce-specific details.

Enter your BigCommerce details

  1. In the Add Connection wizard, work through to the Store Setup step. Choose Create new store, give the store a Name, and select BigCommerce as the Platform. The BigCommerce credential fields appear below.

  2. Enter your Store Hash — in your BigCommerce API path, it’s the segment between /stores/ and /v3/. For example, in https://api.bigcommerce.com/stores/abcde/v3/ the Store Hash is abcde. See Get Your API Credentials.

  3. Click Authorize. A BigCommerce sign-in window opens — sign in as the Store Owner.

  4. BigCommerce asks you to confirm access for the DropStream app. Click Confirm.

  5. Back in the wizard, set the Order Import Status under Import Settings — the BigCommerce order status that tells DropStream an order is ready to ship. This is usually Awaiting Fulfillment.

  6. Click Add connection.

Notes

  • Authorization uses OAuth, so DropStream never asks for a Client ID, Client Secret, or Access Token directly — clicking Authorize and confirming the app grants everything DropStream needs.
  • The default monitored status is Awaiting Fulfillment. Choose a different status if your store uses a custom fulfillment workflow.

Once the connection is added, continue with Configure SKUs, then confirm orders are flowing with Review Order Status.
