About Notifications

Karl Falconer · Updated

DropStream notifies you when it encounters errors processing your orders, shipments, inventory, returns, and purchase orders. You configure who gets notified and when through two settings pages, and you investigate what happened on two Operations pages.

The pieces

  • Notification Channels define where notifications are delivered — for example, a list of email addresses and how often they should be batched. Configure under Settings → Alert Settings → Notification Channels.
  • Alert Policies define when notifications are sent. Each policy lists the events it watches for (Monitored Events), which Notification Channels receive them, and how related alerts are grouped. Configure under Settings → Alert Settings → Alert Policies.

DropStream - Alert Policies settings

  • Alerts are the individual failures DropStream records as it processes your orders, shipments, inventory, returns, and purchase orders. An alert is created for every failure, whether or not you have any Alert Policies configured. View them under Operations → Alerts.
  • Issues are groups of related alerts, opened by an Alert Policy when one of its Monitored Events matches a failure. A failure that doesn’t match any policy still produces an alert, but no issue is created and no notification is sent. View issues under Operations → Issues.

In this section

  • Add a Notification Channel — create an email destination for your notifications and choose how often messages are batched.
  • Create an Alert Policy — set up a policy that ties Monitored Events to your Notification Channels, with grouping and auto-close behavior.
  • Add Monitored Events to a Policy — choose which order, return, purchase order, shipment, or inventory failures should trigger the policy, and optionally scope them to specific connections.
  • View and Investigate Alerts and Issues — see what’s failing, drill into error details and activity timelines, and find related tasks.
