Inventory Planner - Gather API Credentials

Karl Falconer · Updated

This article covers the steps you complete inside Inventory Planner to give DropStream what it needs to import your purchase orders. If you’re setting up your own DropStream account, complete these steps and continue with Enable API Access. If a third-party fulfillment provider is configuring DropStream for you, complete these steps and send them the resulting values — they’ll handle the rest.

You’ll come away with three values:

  • SFTP Endpoint — generated by Inventory Planner when you add the Advanced CSV connection.
  • API Key — generated under Inventory Planner’s API settings.
  • Account ID — read from your Inventory Planner URL.

Before you start

DropStream connects to Inventory Planner’s Advanced CSV feed using an SSH key. DropStream generates the matching Public Key for you — so you need it in hand before you create the connection below.

  • Open the DropStream Add Connection wizard, select Inventory Planner, and copy the Public Key DropStream displays. For the full walkthrough, see Enable API Access.

1. Create an Advanced CSV connection

This step registers DropStream’s SSH key with Inventory Planner and produces the SFTP Endpoint.

  1. Sign in to Inventory Planner.
  2. Go to Account > Settings > Connections.
  3. Click New connection, then search for and select Advanced CSV.
  4. Select your Currency.
  5. Paste the Public Key you copied from DropStream into the SSH public key field.
  6. Enter a description for the connection (for example, DropStream) so it’s easy to identify later.
  7. Click Add. Inventory Planner generates an SFTP Endpoint for this connection. Copy it — you’ll enter it into DropStream.

2. Generate your API Key

  1. In Inventory Planner, go to Account > Settings > API.
  2. Click Generate key.
  3. Copy the API Key and store it securely.

3. Find your Account ID

Your Account ID is in the Inventory Planner URL. After signing in, look at the address bar for the a query parameter:

https://app.inventory-planner.com/...?a=123456
                                        └──────┘
                                        Account ID

The value after ?a= (for example 123456) is your Account ID.

Next

You now have your SFTP Endpoint, API Key, and Account ID. Enter them into DropStream to finish the connection — see Enable API Access. After the details are in place, the DropStream onboarding team will help complete and validate the setup.
